A Presbyterian emigrant from Scotland, Thomas Kennedy (1776-1832) became a prominent legislator in Maryland, known for his strong advocacy for civil and political rights in America, especially for Jewish people. He is a rather obscure figure in the history of American literature, but Mehlman makes a case for his poetry in which his strong convictions are displayed.Downloads
