Nicols (vice provost and dean of the graduate school of arts and sciences of the University of Pennsylvania and Rutgers grad 1918) gave this speech at the dedication ceremony, in November 1956 for the new University Library. It evokes the history of the history for the university and its libraries from their origins at Queen's College up to the present.
