Thomas W. Gissing was the father of English novelist George Gissing (1857–1903). Thomas delighted enough in poetry to teach his son at four or five years of age to recite verses from Tennyson, and his interest was also strong enough to prompted him to try writing poetry himself. Young gives us samples of the poems that indicate his great interest in the study of botany, a field in which he is better known.Downloads
